I have a 20' w/a and my limit is right around 3 ft seas. more than that and I'm out of there and less than that is usually pretty good... if the forecast calls for building seas I will usually postpone the trip.... nothing like getting out there and having a nightmare return with 4+

 

The day you no longer respect the sea is the day you should not be on it. I concur..I have a 20 ft bowrider, and anything over 3ft and I am done. Things can pick up way to quick and you find yourself in trouble...

I've been out before with a small craft advisory warning and it was stupid.
Fishing was impossible......handling the boat was even harder and it was just a waste of freaking time.

 

I tried that too once. Dumb move. You really can't fish no matter how much you want too. I thought I could set up on the leeward side of an island but it really didn't help much.

 

Yeah, I have about the same limits as you guys. I have been caught in an "on shore breeze" that resulted in a 4 foot steady chop all the way back from 10 miles out. I always keep an eye on the sky and an ear to the radio. Two weeks ago, we went out and were slaying the cod/haddock. I knew the wind was going to haul out of the southeast in the afternoon and build the seas to 3'+ The weather did exactly as perdicted. I told the two in the boat we had to go. it was time
