How about grocery store mackerel for these early season Stripers? I’m thinking about a day trip from up north and I already know how bait is down there at the shops this time of year. You can’t touch anything Herring, Mackerel, Bloodworm up in the Adirondacks. We can’t even get to the fish market in Montreal here🥵

I have tried it all including clams in the Hudson....pretty much the best bait below Kingston is bloodworms/sandworms and above Kingston is live herring.

During a feeding frenzy I have had luck with Nightcrawlers though.

Thanks for the tip Doc. Maybe I will swing down with some night crawlers when the spawn gets going . At least there’s plenty of those around.

If you use night crawlers buy some bloodworm juice on Amazon and put a few drops on them....makes a difference.
