I will be vacationing in the Atlantic provinces in late July and early August and am wondering if I should bring any fishing gear along. Checking the posts on this board suggests that time of the year is kinda slow for stripers. Either that or it's so good that nobody has time to make posts :) . I was hoping there were some shore-fishing opportunites then somewhere and when I ran across this board it brought back memories of stalking stripers in the surf when I was a kid (a very long time ago..). So, should I pack some gear or just tag along with my wife doing touristy stuff? If there are any fish about, any sense bringing a fly rod? If stripers are gone or scarce, can anyone recommend anything else for a shore-bound angler in need of a fix? I know that's very general, but even pointers to somewhere where I can get a blowfish will be welcome.... We'll be in PEI, NB and NS, for probably 3+ weeks, driving mostly along the coast, so I figure there will just have to be somewhere I can wet a line. If any of you can offer some advice, I'd be very grateful.

Eh Andy,, you sure can catch stripers in July ,August up here in NS. Anywhere in the Minas Basin should be productive. The wife and I never miss a weekend striper fishing, usually catch at least two tides, sometimes more. I live on the Glooscap Trail side {Economy,,Five Islands}. Herring, mackerel or squid is my bait of choice for that time of year. Let me know when you would be in this area and maybe we could all get together for a fish. Here is a typical view at that time of year. Later Dobb

Eh Tony,, Probaly cause its too hard to hold the beer and fish at the same time,,lol. Alot of the guys will take a few beer to sip on. Personally I usually don't, but the odd time I will. Its great on a hot summers day to go down fishing with 10-15 of your friends , fish for 3-4 hrs , have a barbecue and salads , drink some beer, play washers {something like horseshoes} drink some more beer, eat some more, drink some more and go home. A friend of ours owns about a 20 acre field right on the water. Another 3 or four couples take the rv's for the weekend , the rest of us drive home if we got a driver, if not we crash in a tent or rv where there is room. We do this a few times each summer. Can't beat the hospitality of Bluenosers. Anyway I got to go,,wife got me a 12ft pole for Father's day. I use a 9 ft now so this one looks a little intimadating, probaly can't cast it. Later Dobb

Thank you. Dobb, for the advice and kind offer. Sorry for the tardy reply, but I just got back from feeding the deerflies up north ;) Am really glad to hear (and see from your photo) that I'll have a chance to go after some fish. Am really looking forward to it. Can't wait to smell the salt air... Dunno about the beer drinking though; for me, that's a sure-fire recipe for a headache. Unless it's cloudy or I am sitting under an umbrella. Hmm... maybe I'll bring one cool_blue.gif . I'll try to touch bases with you once we have dates finalized. I am retiring at the end of June, so our trip out east will be very much time-independent. I'll keep an eye on the long-range weather forcasts and plan accordingly. Thanks again.

Riverport area????

Thanks Dobb for the post. thumbsup.gif I will be heading to NS for the last week in July. I will be staying at Riverport in the Lunenburg area west of Halifax. My sister in law is a teacher who's friend has a house there we will be renting for the week. I can't wait to do some relaxing on the beach with my two sons (13 and 8 yrs old) and our surfcasting poles. We will be looking to maybe do some deep sea fishing there also. Any suggestions on boats in the area? Looking forward to a few more tips from fishing friends of the North. Best tides? Bait? rules on Keeper size etc...
Thanks in advance. I will be checking Website for the next couple weeks. happy3.gif

Eh Sandman,,I live on the other side of the Bay of Fundy, so not much help to you. I'm sure you can ask when you get there, I think deep sea fishing would be your best bet in Lunenburg..Later Dobb

Hey sandmanfishes, you aren't allowed striper fishing on that coast of NS.The only place to fish stripers is the bay of fundy here in NS.Deep sea fishing would be your best bet, shark, mackeral, flounder. Not sure what else, not from that area but know theres no striper fishing on that coast of NS.

Hey sandmanfishes, you can fish bass in the Bay of Fundy. There is no bass fishing in the Northumberland strait. Not sure how you get to the guzzle.I know its accross the bay from where we fish, near Windsor N.S. maybe. We fish near 5 Isands area of the bay. There is a provincial park to camp at and a few other campgrounds and a 4 seasons retreat also.Bass can be caught most anywhere in the bay.
