I am moving to Ecity in the next 6 weeks and looking at getting into striper fishing. I am curious if my setup will be okay for the area. I have a 19' bow rider with an I/O. The boat is setup to troll for salmon in lake Michigan with downriggers. Being new to striper fishing will the boat be okay for the area, are downriggers and dipsy divers useful when trolling for stripers and for those that troll the sound how many color lead core do you use? Thanks for any info in advance.

your boat will be fine for the river but it can still get a little rough depending on the wind direction. I would pick my days carefully if you decide to go in the sound. I have a 22 ft center console and I have had waves breaking over my bow. I have used a down rigger before but you really don't need it here, the water in the sound is only 20 to 25 ft deep. we use stretch 15 and 20 baits and umbrella rigs.
