I'm all for game fish status! They should reduce recreational limits to one fish a day and make it a slot at a smaller size so you can't keep the big ones that are really reproducing. I'd even be happy to sit out a few years of keeping any to rebuild the stocks - I usually release anyway.
Tournaments are fun but keep them to bluefish and leave the bass out of it.
Increasing fines and penalties for poachers would also be great. Last summer I called the environmental police on some flounder poachers. They caught them with 4 or 5 small fish and fined them but did not take their gear so these pricks kept on fishing.
