We're doing the event again this year, hopefully minus the tropical storm. The one major change is we're only allowing fisherman to leave from Tyrrell County. You can leave from either the wildlife ramp on the Scuppernong or from Alligator Marina on the Alligator River. Cypress Cove Marina is willing to take overflow from the Scuppernong side. We'll pay your ramp fee at Alligator. We'll have a catered dinner after the weigh-in and some really good bluegrass bands during and after the meal. Registration fee includes t-shirt, food and music and we're offering $2200 in prize money. All proceeds are going to the Tyrrell Co. Volunteer Fire Dept. If you're interested or know anyone that might be check out the website for registration info at www.palmettopeartree.org. Listen for our radio spot on Dixie 105.7 starting on Oct. 27. Early registration ends at 5pm Oct. 31.

Oh by the way, if I didn't know any better I would have thought I was fishing in the Pamlico Sound the last two months. :4996:

If you are mailing your registration and it is post marked today, we'll accept the early fee. If you have any questions please feel free to call me today at 796-1677. We've got two good bluegrass bands lined up and we've added trout and shrimp to the menu.

Re: Columbia Rockfish Tournament Wrap-up

The tournament was a huge success guys. Thanks to everyone who participated and donated their time and money. We had 88 registered fisherman, which is 20 more than last year. We'd like to get to 100 next year, but we were more than pleased with our turnout. More than 200 folks showed up for the weigh-in and dinner, which is much more than we anticipated...we didn't have enough chairs for everyone, at least we had enough food. It seemed everyone enjoyed the meal and we overheard a lot of compliments on the menu selection. The two bluegrass bands, Empty Pockets and Old Habits put on a great show into the evening. The winning weight was 14.8 lbs (3 fish) and 6.0 lbs took the big fish pot, although the biggest fish in the tournament was 6.4 lbs. Congratulations to Dave Buchanan and Jeff Davis, our first place winners that took home $1500. We'll have full results posted on our website www.palmettopeartree.org/things_to_do/fishing by this evening. We're reviewing the event and already making changes for next year. We apologize for the late start in the morning, but we'll make sure that fishing starts at 6:30 rather than 7:30 next year. If anyone has any comments or suggestions feel free to post as we're looking for feedback. And thanks to the huge turnout we'll be able to make a generous charitable donation to the Tyrrell Co. Volunteer Fire Dept. Hope to see everyone next year.thumbsup.gif
