Hit the duct last night with my buddy Mikey, flows were very minimal.
Fished a few spots for nothing…
Our 3rd stop produced 1 short strike for Mikey but no hookup : (
We fished on..
We fished HARD,,,

We fished DEEP !

The…just as we were unsuspecting….

THUNK~
HOOK~uP
(and here goes the trademark..)

Zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz!

Bendo…
7' 11" Extra heavy crucial swimbait pole SUPER BENDO!

Drag peela' DELUXE !

Again sending me downstream for the battle…
This time about 100 yards
Experiencing super rod THUMPING
Drag Stripping

Heart palpitating runs !
At times walking downstream while the drag still spinning out (yeeeee-haw)

Left my net at a spot last week…..NO NET (PLEASE lecture me….I NEED IT !)
Finally get it in view…

DAYAM !
Mikey says…….Fcccc#@
We see sheer mass
I work it cautiously to ducts edge

Mikey lips it…
And immediately follows up with the left hand rammed into the gills…

ON DECK
Whoooooa Nelly !

SUPa' PEEG !
Gotta say it again…..
DAYAM !

It's on deck and victory is had…
DAYAM…
Straight even 40 lbs weighed today after being dead all night..
44 ½" long
25 ½" girth

DAYAM !
Ohhhh so sweet…after being smoked with three previous fish in this class, I've finally landed the SUPa' PEEG !
Wheew…getting tired just remember the play by play : )
It "MANGLED" 5 of the 6 shanks on my two treble hooks !
(Had only 1 good shank left in the fish)
One of which was a Owner Stinger #1 2X (Dayam!)
Sheer massive mass is the only way to describe this beastie !

Here ya go….it's gonna be a hard one for me to top…
but I am eager to see if I ever can : ) I can only be thankful for my luck at this point : )

freaking nice. I can only hope and pray I get a hook up like that. What time of the evening were you out? and, were you in the duct south of oneil to la or north from oneil to the delta. (not looking for specifics just generalization).

About 10.....but I can tell you that time isn't all that relevant...it's the water conditions that are determining the bite...

some days little flow other days more constant...gotta get it when it's been more constant..only way to figure it is to continually fish it...

I was in the bakersfield region...south of Oniel (I WISH I was as north as Oniel)

Good luck out there....time on the water....I'm sure you turn is round the bend : )

Thanks for the info. I live about an hour and a half away from the duct/oneil so its difficult to gain experience from random outings. I've just noticed that south of Oneil the duct is much wider than north of Oneil. So, I'm trying to determine whether or not having a bigger body of water will pay off.
