all the time spent fishing from shore you cant tell me that you havnt seen boats piled up on top of eachother and seen many, many fish pulled in. i have and i remember all of it. and i dont even have a boat. its not exactly spot stealing. unless you think i should close my eyes and not look at the boatscoffee2.gif

Look for current around the bridges or by the rock pile by the dam
There all good, just some better then others.
There are usually plenty of herring around the bridges in Albany. The striper fishing around any bridge pilon is usually good. Up against the damn can be productive but hectic as the current can be ripping and its only 3 feet deep in spots. Watch where the charters go.....they've been out for years and know the hot spots. I've had no luck in some areas then slammed them. Remember....the striper are always on the move...just have to find out their paths, ie; they were killing them from the Rensselaer boat launch this past Sunday.
I havent found my honey hole yet for either live herring or a striper but I'm having fun and learning more everytime I go out...

I do appericate the responses from those who responded...

The Herring will get much easier to jig in another week or two. They should be hitting on sabiki's no matter where you go. But you will also see a increase in boat traffic as we hit "prime time" for Stripers.

Stripers are always on the move anyway, so find a spot away from the crowds, anchor up with live (and/or fresh chunk) ... you will eventually get some action.

If you can get out real early on nice weather days.

Good luck !

Trying to head out early today, Gotta drop my lil boy off first, he's only 15 months old or he'd be out with dad and his buddy for sure trying himself, haha! I can't wait for those days to come! Anyways the herring jigging has finally picked up for me and I'm still skunked on striper but I'm hoping today is the day!

:)
As far as the herring, I have also found that some days they hit anything, and some days they like a certain color hook or feather. I try to have 4 different color combinations on four different rods. I don't care if one person catches all of the bait, at least we can get fishing. Good luck!

Excactly, if one or all catches the bait, at least we all have some to work with... I'm bringin some frozen herring with me too this am, as well as my buddy is, we should be set for quite a few hrs. Tight Lines!
I got plenty of Herring yesterday by the Corning Preserve but they were all snagged on the Sabiki rig......it seems none of them actually went for the rig. I suspect this is due to the cloudy water.
Got about a dozen Herring Yesterday off Corning Preserve Launch, a bit upriver. No stripers though. Was out on saturday in the same area and didn't catch a damn thing. Saw Serenity Now's boat out there that a.m. too!!
Went out yesterday with a new fishing bud from 24/7. First time out together..It was a great day. We fished from 7:30ish to 3:30ish. hearing were a little picky but landed them all day long. We ended up with two keepers 15lber and 12lber, Two monster cats and 1 20lber? lost at the side of the boat. All and all great day out fishing. Thanks Wim243 ...The fish are in the river , just need to be patiant and keep ur lines in the water. Chunk and live both worked. We had about 5-7 runs with no results. Tight Lines:flyfish::pigroast1::mental:

2012 Stripers= 4
Largest to date 38"-20lbs
Yes it was a real good time and I went out today and got a net. All because that lovely charter guy :) We will hit it again next week
