  4. Rods And Custom Rod Building
Hey all... first post here. My girlfriend needs a rod to use on the boat here on the James river for striper, and most of the lures I have to use are 3/4oz on up to 3oz. Some of these are also my surf lures that I think would work well in the river. Was wondering if anyone's tried the ugly...
  5. Rods And Custom Rod Building
Is the Shakespeare Ugly Stik Bigwater a decent rod for stripering? I have heard the Ugly Stik Tiger is better, but can't find one locally. I use spinning reels exclusively...so that narrows my options. I have had just as good luck with my other Uglys...at least as good as the more expensive gear.

I recently got a Penn 850ssm and an Ugly Stick 11102M rod. I decided to get away from chunking as I came to surf casting after 12+ years of fly-fishing and miss the idea of catching fish on lures. The rated lure weight of this rod is 2-8oz but how accurate is this and will a lighter rod...

Anybody have any feedback on these rods? I could be a little rough with my gear, so I didn't want to spend a fortune. These would be used strictly on the river, I was looking at one casting and one spinning setup...they are rated for 12-25# test and 8-17# test. Thanks
