I'm just trying to get an idea of the best size cast net to use. I'm 55 and 6' 235lb so I do have some strength but heard it's all in the technique. I keep hearing 6' or 8' so I was thinking of just going with a 7'. Will be using for catching shad, alewives, etc... in freshwater lakes. Don't...

Tried scapping for the first time ever near Kingston, water high, muddy, no possibility with a sabiki. Lo and behold, it works. Got 6 in about half an hour, one of them parlayed into a 33" striper. Thanks One Bite!

Has any one ever used a cast net in the main river? Because we're unable to net the creeks now, would it be possible to locate a big school of herring from the boat and net them from it? I caught the first striper last year April 11 and getting bait to hit the rigs was next to impossible for me.

I have a pier I can use to cast a net from. I have never done this but it looks interesting. Could some one recommend a cast net to start off with. I think it would be a neat way to get some minnows up. Tight lines, J.R.

Wondering if anyone in the upper hudson uses a cast net with regular success? My girlfriend just moved up from Florida and she has a 7 super spreader, and is pretty handy with it. The sabikis have served me well in the past, Im just wondering if it would be worth it to bring and give a try...

Got out into the Bay today just after daybreak. The tide was out. I was fishing a cove at Fox Point. I watched the cormorants fly into the cove and form a net. This was very well put together and thought out. They spread out in a big line and forced the bait, silversides, into shore. Then...

I'm thinking about getting a gill net for menhaden in the Boston area. I did a search on this topic but I wasn't clear on what the regulations are if you want a small gill net in Mass for recreational use. Are there restrictions? Also, any advice people have on how to do it effectively is...

One of our board members, crazyman1, has been comissioned by the River Basin to produce scap nets that will be sold at the shop! What's the big deal you ask? Well, as the proud owner of a four foot square net I can attest to the fact that these nets are FAR superior to the ones that the River...
