  7. The Wiper Room
They've been hard to find of late. This is my fifth trip to Monroe and not a single wiper. Not even any signs of them. Of course, I had my theories about the lake being fished out and other such doomsday perdictions, but I held out hope that things would change. So with that in mind, Mr...

Very hard day to get birds to work. The birds wanted to be in the field to the east of us, wind kept changing directions, and the birds were very shy. A decoy was destroyed by a falling goose. The head broke off and the metal base was bent 90 degrees.

The good news is the water temps are up. Most of the lake is 59 degrees, but in the coves it is 61. No wipers yet. I tried. Oh! how I tried, but they just were not hanging on the fast side and I lack the patience for the idle zone. Tried Paynetown area and the dam--nada. Got determined and...

Hybrid striper fishing is good in Indiana right now. The chicken gizzard guys are pulling in the small fish left and right; so are the hot dog and the minnow fishermen, but they are finding mostly small fish. The trouble with small wipers is they taste like whatever they feed them in the...

Put out from the new Fairfax Ramp at 3:00 p.m. Took a small (-1 lb) wiper in the inlet near the ramp. Fished the mouth of the inlet--nothing. Moved to the dam and Salt Creek Ramp. We could mark 'em but could not catch them. Headed up to the flat west of Allen's Creek. Near dusk they...

It was overcast when we put in on the fast side, but not much wind. Large and sometimes dark clouds coasted lazily overhead. We (The Atheist and I) anchored in about five feet of water and started casting Slab Spoons. Nothing seemed to be biting and within an hour a strong wind kicked up...
