    Does anyone know if there are restrictions on catching/using gizzard shad for chunking bait? Does it work?....I'm shore bound on the the Roundout and trying to get my first hookup. I usually get a few herring but lately i've jigged a few gizzard shad. Use em or throw em back? Advice apprecited.

    Can anyone tell me the general life cycle of a Gizz? How long do they live, how fast do they grow??? Also, what are the seasonal characteristics?? I assume their movements mimic the stripers. If anyone wants to throw in alewives info tha woud be a nice addition to this thread as well...
