I have a quick question about Berkly fireline original (smoke to specific). Is it like Mono where you need to re-spool every year or can you get a few seasons out of it like you can with braid ??? Its 20# going on a Penn 704z

I just got done spooling a VSB150 with 30lb Berkley Fireline Smoke. The reel specs say that it will hold 330 yards of braid but with this fireline I bet I couldn't get 250yards on the reel and thatis without any backing just some tape on the spool to keep it. I can't tell what is left on the...

So I got some fireline, 300 yds 30lb test. I'm gonna put it on my Abu Garcia saltwater reel.
So my question is, Do I use a backing? Or just let it be the way it is? And if I do use a backing, what not would you suggest?
