I'm just trying to get an idea of the best size cast net to use. I'm 55 and 6' 235lb so I do have some strength but heard it's all in the technique. I keep hearing 6' or 8' so I was thinking of just going with a 7'. Will be using for catching shad, alewives, etc... in freshwater lakes. Don't...

  6. Hudson River
Has any one ever used a cast net in the main river? Because we're unable to net the creeks now, would it be possible to locate a big school of herring from the boat and net them from it? I caught the first striper last year April 11 and getting bait to hit the rigs was next to impossible for me.
  7. Upper Hudson River Striper Club
Last season there were a few days where herring were in thick, splashing around the shallows, but would not hit a sabiki or follow the stoolie. I presume the were getting busy. Anyway, I am thinking of buying a small (6 foot) cast net to throw from my kayak or from shore. Before I spend the...

I am having trouble finding the right balance between the line test (20LB) and the weight of the lure (diamond rig) - too heavy of a lure casts off quickly, too light doesn't get the lure past the breaks. Any suggestions?

  13. Shorebound - Surf Beginners
Hey all, this is my second year of experience with saltwater fishing, and I am just beginning to really target stripers. When casting from the surf, should I just try to cast it as far as I can, or should I attempt to place my bait a certain distance out in the surf? I typically just try to...

OK, I think we all have one in our plug bag or tackle box, but now I hear there's a correct way to actually fish an acme cast master. All I have ever done is a straight retrieve sometimes changing up the speed. I usually give it some time to sink. What are some other techniques for using one...

I saw what looked to be at least a 40 lber swim literally 2 feet in front of me in such shallow water her back was exposed. If you never thought you could catch a big girl in such skinny water, think again...I know I'm rethinking. This was also at about noon on a 85 degree day. I couldn't make...
