Default What can a striper see?

Science has studied predatory fish vision.
It appears as if the striped bass makes an excellent specimen for examining photo receptor action potential and ion gradients in advanced physiology study labs. It no doubt has highly adapted night vision with electrical properties that are mechanically activated by darkness.
208 photons of cones per micron squared
In all cells, the responses to dim lights increased linearly with light intensity.
The amplitude-intensity relation for rods and single cones
were well described by an exponential saturation function

Use whatever line you like in murky or stained water and
clear or flouro in clear water
A flouro leader is always a good idea.

I've always wondered about stripers' amazing vision, if they're so keen that they can see a teensy Spro ball bearing swivel, or tell whether your leader is mono, not flouro, how is it that they can miss all them damn treble hooks hanging off a Long A Bomber? Ever see how many hooks are hanging under there? Hell, I hook myself almost every time I go near one of those things.....
Line shy? I've never seen a HUNGRY striper shy of anything, all I see are a big mouth and a lot of gills. But they must be able to see pretty well, I've had fish take lures in water that was so frothy or dirty that I could not believe that any critter could actually see in it.....pretty amazing fish.

I think when their hunger instinct takes precedence over all other senses.

true enough, but put them in shallow, clear water, like waay up-river and you have yourself one keen striper, especially the ghost fish that aren't schooling and don't need to compete for food... finding the trigger can be quite a challenge.. once you find it, it's like they all the sudden got stupid.. enter nose-hooked sluggo with a ten foot flouro 20lb leader and blackened braid, dead drifted, with a dying twitch...
