Default OK, here's a question.

OK, here's a question.

Over the years I've changed the way I surfcast for stripers. Started dunking bait and doing what I thought was OK. Found a popper I liked and found a new dimension. Tried big wooden plugs, soft plastics, and eels. Now I catch way more fish, and mostly bigger.

Here's my question to you. When you head out to fish, or if you've been fishing and don't have any fish yet, what do you consider your "must try" bait/lure?

Thanks

Default Must try bait / lure

You try to Match the hatch. Whatever the fish have been feeding on in that particular spot with an immitation plug or bait. If you've exhausted your arsenal, then the fish just arent there.

For me, I try lures and FinS stuff from time to time, but the one thing that I always seem to go back to when I want to catch fish.....any fish.....is meat. Live clams, dead bunker, parts of other fish, I just seem to get better results with bait, clams in particular. I will use spearing and squid if I'm lucky enough to get out fluking somewhere, but for the vast majority of my fishing, which is off the beach or jetty, it's clams, until I find something that works any better. And believe me, with the fall just around the corner, I'll be spending lots of time on the sand, trying things.
