Default Sandworms pinch...don't they?

I just got into striper fishing last year and I used all different chunk baits but not sandworms. I bought them once, opened the box and saw pincers. I closed the box and diced up some herring. At the end of the night I let the worms go free. Problem was I didn't know if I would need gloves or what. I didn't bother to find out because I was catching 5-7 schoolies everynight without them. Well I want to use them right now so I need to know... Do those pincers hurt at all? Do you feel it if they pinch you? I'm not a p*ssy I just want to know. As long as it doesn't feel like a wasp I will use them. On a scale of 1-10...What's the pinch feel like?

Strawman, the pinchers don't hurt anymore than say an earwig. they look worse than they actually are. I usually try to avoid getting pinched by stuffing a hook down it's throat.

What he Said. Hold them close to the head and shove the hook down its throat.

Ha! Well wouldn't you know it i never been pinched by an ear wig either. How can I shove a hook down it's throat? Is the claw end the mouth? I tried with gloves on that night but they were thick gloves so I couldn't really feel what I was doing. The worms kept breaking in half. Should I just get pinched and get it over with to see how much it sucks? Neither one of you said it doesn't hurt so I assume I'll feel it enough to not want it twice...

lol I was waiting for that. I'm just north of Boston, no fish here yet. I will be using the worms no matter what but since I'm bored at work I figured I would ask about them hurting. I have 7 maybe 8 tattoos so i ain't worried about a little pinch, I'm curious that's all

Tell you the truth, the damned things freak me out.

You ever see the scene from the King Kong movie that came out a few years ago where the giant sandworm like critters were grabbing guys by the head and sucking em down whole?

Just grab them up close by the head like you would with a snake or eel... that way they won't be able to bend far enough to pinch you. Don't use gloves though, too cumbersome. I usually wait until they put their pinchers out and then put the hook in right... it's almost like they guide the hook in for you....

This is going to seem dumb, but just cut the head of the worm off!! Now theres no pinching. Worms work great for schoolie stripers early on in the season.

Take threeshots of Tequila......bite the head off......take another shot and swallow. If you can still see the hook and hole ( where the head was ) shove it in. Toss it in ....take another shot .....hand the rod to someone else.

Leave your stress at the door....stroll on in.

You can practice before the fish get there. Just put a dozen in a bowl while watching tv and stick your hand in. After an hour or so you can mix in your favorite tv snack. HEY STRAW I,M JUST KIDING
