Re: 2019 STRIPER REPORTs
How is the fishing in Newburgh flats? Is it worth the motor up North Doc? I thought schools formed en masse in Newburgh at this time of the run? Trying to plan getting bait and where to go this weekend. Keep them lines tight!

Newburgh to Poughkeepsie has not had nearly the volume of fish residing there that it should for this time of year. 3w ago there was 4 million gallons of sewage dumped into the river and I am sure this pushed the fish that would have settled south more north. The area from Rogers point to Norrie point has been on fire. There are also a lot of fish even more north. These fish have to come south so the have to go through Poighkeepsie and Newburgh but i doubt there will be lights out fishing. I have been checking Milton to Poighkeepsie every day on my way north and it has been dead...so yes....go North for now.

Fished the dam today, 62 deg, clarity good, high water rough and windy. Few guys by the power plant but otherwise nobody but me and the DEC netting and shocking. I got herring, shad and cats but no bass. DEC said they got plenty of bass and were surprised how few were fishing. Think I will try by Albany tomorrow.

I’m going to get an electro-fishing setup...or travel south. It’s a toss up at this point. Did he say wether or not the bass had spawned yet?

Re: 2019 STRIPER REPORTs
The day today up at Norrie Point started out hot. The first light AM ebb bite is off the hook with aggressive fish and multiple rods going all the time. There were thick schools coming by with a constant flow of fish on the West Channel wall all the way down to Rogers Pt. The S wind kicked up around 8am which definitely put a dampner on the bite but it was still on...we just had to adjust how much line we let out to get the bait to the 21 FOW feeding zone which was a bit deeper than usual. Unfortunately the threat of PM Thunderstorms took us off the water although I had an intuition we should have stayed because they never came the the river calmed right down...We ended with 50 for the day but this easily could have been a triple digit day based on the steady bite. Water temps were 59-60 degrees...still quite cold for this date.

Re: 2019 STRIPER REPORTs
Fished at Albany today, many herring, one bass at 32". Made a good video with Dylan playing in the background (it is his birthday and WEXT was playing 100 of his songs), but youtube blocked it for copyright shit. I am working on that. Here is a pic of the bass. Lots of herring a few hundred yards below the I-90 on the east side which is where I got the bass.

Re: 2019 STRIPER REPORTs
Nice! I guess it isn’t quite over up here. It’s deep on that side where you caught that one...we’re you on the bottom or did you target the 20’ range where the ff lights up? I’ve always been under the impression that it’s mostly herring when I see that. I thought I might travel south but I couldn’t get out of work early enough to find blood or sands. If I decide to try Albany tomorrow maybe I’ll see you. I have an older blue and white super-fisherman. It’ll likely be only a few boats out anyway. Thanks for the report.

Re: 2019 STRIPER REPORTs
The bite continues....today (5/24)we ended up with 70 Stripers caught between Rogers and Norrie Point with one caught at 11 pm tonight in Marlboro Bay that was 37"/19lbs and unspawned. Tonight we marked more fish in Marlboro and Milton so this is good news that they have come here....I think we will have an extended season diwn here this year. The first light am bite up at Norrie point is absolutely insane on the Ebb tide. The winds kicked around 8am and there really was no northern drift on flood but for once the northern wind may have helped this afternoon. Even though it was a bit bouncy it was like being in slack tide for 2 hours as our baits were suspended and moving very slowly from west to east across the channel. Down accrosss from Rogers Point every time we drifted over the western drop we hooked up on all poles. When the wind died and current picked up to 2.5 mph the bite shut right off because ghe bait was moving too fast. Water temps are finally coming around at 60-61 degrees making the males much more active and aggressive. The schools seem to still be moving North. Heading back out in 2 hours for the am bite. We have beaten our kast years total already.

Re: 2019 STRIPER REPORTs
Hey Kirch, I was on the bottom in about 20 feet. I suspended a chunk but no hits. I am taking the day off today to plant the garden. They let me publish the video of the 32", here it is, music by the Zimmerman. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QhziBIzITwo

Re: 2019 STRIPER REPORTs
Today (5/25) was another epic day as we almost beat our all time one day catch record. We ended up with 166.....just 3 shy of our record. We gave it our all to try and beat it but the pm winds and weather moving in shut down the bite. This morning up at Norrie Point was off the hook. We got there before first light and the bite was on. On the am flood our first drift yielded us 44 as wwe drifted up toward the Esopus lighthouse. The school of Striper running on the west wall of the channel was miles long and headed south. Early am the got down to Marlboro and the fishing was good ther today. Wwe followed the school down oast Rogers Point, Poughkeepsie and into Marlboro Bay and picked at them all day before the bite shut down. Yes....they are clearly moving south pist spawn but there are a whole lotta Stripers left up north that have yet to come down and they are still spawning. They have nit reached Newburgh yet but I suspect they will be there in a day or so. This school was moving incredibally fast and slammed our baits meaning business....sometimes one fish hitting 2 rods. Water temps are climbing and are up to 62 in Marlboro and up at Norrie. We will be out at first light again to take advantage of the early am bite which lasted from the end of flood into slack and half way through ebb.

Re: 2019 STRIPER REPORTs
Thanks for posting Doc Z.
Another skunk for me up in catskill. They're still there on the screen though. Saw a huge monster jump in the center channel. Herring is starting to get difficult this past week.
Got excited when I caught one herring when I was anchored in about 30ft. So, I had alteast one line on live. Only had 2 from 2 days ago from the fridge. 63 degrees and clarity is getting better. Heard other talk about their herring difficulties and they're still having runs and hits still.
The catfish been loving the green leader and spinner on chunk. Green leader and floating bead got more attention as well.
Where I work, we have emergency repairs to equipment. So, I've been here the whole weekend. Hopefully, today will be a 1/2 day and I can get my little 14 footer and 8hp down there for the afternoon.
