Default Bait Casting Nets...Who uses em?

I've been looking at getting a bait casting net.
The one I was looking at is a 6' Radius/12' Dia
3/8" net cast ring etc. Easy Throw net...

All saltwater applications...

My basic plan would be to chum for small bait fish
throw the net and fill the live well.

I'm adding a live well to my plans for the boat this
spring but that's another topic...

Do the nets work well. What's the right size? Is a 12'
diameter too big?

Are there any regulations I should be made aware of
for using them off the NH - MA Merrimac shores...

Remember, a 6' net has a 12 ' diameter, 12' net has a 24' diameter

With regular cast nets, the bigger they are, the harder they are to throw. Just starting out I'd sitck to 6 or 8'

I've never used the one with the ring, seems like a good idea. Let us know how it works

Cal, I dont know what kind of bait you plan on catching.... you wont get Macs with a throw net... pogies have been real tough to come bye the last few years (actualy the last decade) and sandeels are too small and should be seigned......
I have two nets, one herring size (retired now with the moritorium) and the other pogie size(retired due to lack of bait), both are 12'.. it takes alot of practice to use them sucessfully... good luck.

If you want Macs or pollock... use a sabiki rig....

Hey Roc,

Do you go all the way up the the IOS to get macs
in your boat? Do you wait for the right time/weather?

Yeah, that'll be using a sabiki rig...

This year I'm guessing this will be an experiment
in trying...

After doing some more reading. Looks like sudsy is
right... Maybe smaller diameter first...maybe an 8' net.

Are you kidding.. the isle of shoals is inside... I go alot farther than that...

I get my Macs as close as I can, if I have to run outside I will.. My boat is 8' wide and weighs in the neighborhood of 2200 lbs that is not your average 18' boat....
