Fishing reports up to and including Monday, May 7, 2012
Location: Narragansett Bay, Rhode Island

Recent cold snap has slowed the migration of stripers in Narragansett Bay. It's been cold, damp, and windy for the most part last week kept us at the dock most of the week. We did manage to get out Thursday and Sunday. Sea water temperatures actually dipped this week and the water quality in the Providence River seemed poor at best. There was plenty of flotsam around to foul a hook. We did find a few pod of leisurely flipping bunker on the surface, undisturbed by predators later in the day. Once the weather patterns changes with a little bit of warmth, striper fishing should greatly improve with more influx of bait too.

Captains Log:

Thursday was rainy and cold and the wind finally subsided making fly presentations bearable. This was Joe Herbert first trip on the water this season just returning from a Florida fishing trip with little success due to the same cold conditions. Joe was more than anxious to get tight and try to change his luck. We knocked down eight striper during the morning picking up singles along the way. Nothing large, but the smaller size of the stripers was encouraging for future years. If only there were more of them.

Sunday was cold, windy, overcast but dry for a change. We had two trout woman on board to test their casting skills in the salt with much heavier equipment. Word was that neither Leslie nor Kechia had ever caught a striper on a fly before. They were both up to the task as you can see. Leslie seen her backing for the first time while Kechia never felt a trout pull so hard. They knocked down maybe 12-15 stripers total with four over the legal size. They left tired after lack of sleep and a long drive home. Interesting to note, we spotted the pogy plane several time during the trip.

Stay tuned for more fish reports in the weeks to come. The Signorello family (father/son duo) is putting in all on the line. Will this captain be voted on or off the water? See how it plays out. What a tease?
