Managed to jig up 3 herring in the esopus today. Coulda had a few more but they got off as I tried to get them into my kayak. They were biting pretty good up until high tide, then it completely turned off. All in all a good day on the yak and now I really cant wait until friday!
Put in at Schodack Island SP this afternoon, sunny, upper 40's, no wind, water temp 44 , very low tide, 2 ft. visibility, flat calm, nobody else out, virtually nothing on the fish finder, no bites on a nightcrawler in 4 feet of water, boat ran good.
Fished Albany and Troy today checked by the dam the post and a few other creeks nothing on the fish finder tried jigging and came up empty . Water was 41 in try and 43 in Albany . Was able to catch a few cats and boat ran good so not a wast
Tried albany from shore in a productive spot from last spring and caught no herring. Also tried postenkil and got skunked, guess we need a few more warm days
I put in at Catskill yesterday. I marked quite a few good sized fish, and marked what I think we're herring in the creek. I jiggled with my sabiki for a while. No bites. All systems are go with regard to the boat and gear.
Crappy day, cold damp and windy at HH. Tossed and swam a stooley at both half and low tide, saw nothing. Site claiming 45+ water temperature. No cormorants hanging around. The eagles are dilligently manning the nest though. :trink08:
I still think it is a little early. That warm weather we had a few weeks ago really messed the herring up and got us all excited. They are there though. Good luck to everyone this year. Hope it will be a good one for everyone. And remember where ever you go, be safe and carry out what you carry in.
even though people arent getting herring they are here. Cold nights and coldfronts send them back to deep holes or back to the river. Fish on on friday
I threw a stoolie at Kingston point and in Glasco yesterday with no followers spotted. Went to cover the boat last night and a couple guys jigged a few up in the esopus near the falls. I didn't ask too many questions but they said they got a couple. It was near the top of high tide, not sure if it was coming or going though. On a side not, I got my bait pump working and now the fishing rig is 100% ready to run. Just hoping for some productive days as I'll be sacrificing sleep and health to get out on the few chances i get! Good luck to all
