Default Just how tough are these bad boy stripers?

Has anyone else caught a striper with broken backs and could hardly swim, or just behind the gills to where it could only look straight down and could hardly swim? I've caught two like this A 36 incher and a 35 incher. I want to know how the hell this fish survived in the ocean wounded for all those years? Both fish could barely swim but still made it all the way up to the end of tidewater in the Coquille river. Besides having V shaped backs and not swimming to well they were healthy fish.

One was just like twas hat maybe a little more v shaped. The second striper with his head looking straight down was way more of an angle and right behind his gills, he barely put up a fight. Whatever the case may be, I can tell you one thing that I love about fish stripers, you just never know what to expect.
