Question Downrigger Question

I'm thinking about investing in a downrigger so I don't have to use wire/lead line when trolling for stripers. I saw some downriggers that have a base that sits in your rod holder so you don't have to install them onto your boat. This appeals to me because I have a plastic boat (Triumph) and don't want to mess with drilling into it. Has anyone used a downrigger that sits in the rod holder before? Did it work well? I appreciate any thoughts including best practices for using a downrigger to catch stipers. Thanks!

I think Cabela's may have a downrigger mount that fits in the built in rod holders on your boat. I have used downriggers for years and they are invaluable for striper fishing. I use Cannons but there are several good ones out on the market.

I've got my side riggers mounted in the gunwale rod holders. All you need is a gimble mount that slides in and out of the holders. Here is the link.

I use the Cannons with the Gimbal mount they work great, you can get the gimbal mount cheaper on ebay than at any online store

I too own a Triumph. The gimbal mount should work fine for as many of Triumph owners use them. Check out the link below for another alternative to downriggers.
