I have an idea of standing there with a petition for all boaters to sign, then presenting it to the people who don't know what's going on. Goverment first our guns now our right to use what taxpayers paid for. What do ya think??
I Think anything is worth trying to get this squared away.

I just went to the rowing site, they say that the local parking lots are run by the OGS - Office of General Services.

I just called the news stations ... the one that seemed to take the most interest was channel 10.

After a lil more research, it might be run by Albany Parking Authority ... I'm gonna give them a call tomorrow sometime. If anyone wants to beat me to it here's the # 434-8886.

from a friend of mine:

Mayor Jennings was just here and I discussed this with him. He has been receiving several complaints about this. It's not the rowing association - it's a state DOT contract for construction of the ramp above - the Mayor doesn't think it needs to be closed off like that and he's going to call NYS DOT to see if there's something they can do.

I stop there every morning before work to enjoy my coffee. This morning I noticed they even blocked off more with yellow bunkers. Almost 95% of the Corning preserve parking is now closed off.

here's an update that I just received(from a friend):

The Mayor just called me - he went down to the site today and indeed - the contractor doing the road construction on the ramp above did fence off alot of the site BUT, there was also some rowers there and the Mayor spoke to them about the storage of all of their skulls down there which, they are not supposed to be doing.

Unfortunately there isn't anything he can do about the road contruction but, he did speak with the rowers about being more considerate of the boaters and he's going to have DOT post some signs for alternate launch sites.

The road construction is supposed to go through most of the summer.

I can confirm additional parking has been blocked off. They look temporary, plastic jersey barrier type. I doubt they have anything to do with construction. Maybe they are for the 'learn to row' clinic being held this coming weekend, there are signs up on the fence advertising it.
If the fencing is for construction, where will the rowing sculls go? Smells fishy to me, and not in a good way.

Glad to see this is an important issue for everyone. I went down there this morning and counted at least 20 plus spots taken away. found this number on the fence for city lawyer( I think) Mike Kline 434-5050. Nice guy. He sent me an e-mail directing me to the state. Also spoke to someone from the mayors office Nicolet was her name and she also directed me to the state.

The temporary fencing put up was done so by DA Collins (the contractor) in collaboration with DOT, specifically for the purpose of storing the rowing boats while work is done on the south-bound side of 787. The previous fencing enclosure the rowers used is where the bridge work is being done, so this was the storage solution.

Given that the rowing club operates down there basically year round and serves over 100 kids and 30 adults per day, 6 days per week - and they are the full private owners of the only dock down there - I'd say this is fairly reasonable.

Simple question then, to our new troll (like me) AlbanyRes... if we launch a boat there where should we park 55' worth of truck & trailer? I assume this was thought out aswell. And by "thought out", I would also assume "not my problem" was the outcome.
