Have you cleared this with Jim ??
Spam doesn't go over too well here either.

I'll leave it alone until he decides what to do.

Its cool Sudsy, You still got that 498 PUM? Since last year ive added: 302n, 302, 402, 386, 486, 488, 406, I love old mitchells.. fished all season with them.. only one broke.. dunked them all the time... they should outlaw those reels.. they are just too good and dont break

Two 396's (one of em new in box ), a 496 and two 498's all PUM

Yup, great reels, the only weak spot is the drag
I'm experimenting with cork drag washer material on the 396

It amazes me how few people even know these reels existed.
The fact that the better sized reels, the 396 and 496 were only available in Europe probably plays a role. The 498, even though it's surprisingly light for its size, is just a bit too big for most people.

It's getting time for the winter reel breakdown marathon. I think I'll start with the Mitchells

Sudsy, do you know that the 302 / 402 drag is actually better than the 398 498 type? I think they are..

Yea the drag is a "drag" I wish I could put a T E F L O.... hey... I got an idea... do you know where I can get some thick teflon rings?? Have you ever tried it? Here are a few of my Mitchells..
