Last night I went & checked again near Kingston for herring if they are there they are barely there or just showing up, in two hours during a bright full moon I saw no herring but I did see some fish breaking what they were I couldn't tell, and like I said I couldn't tell what they were breaking the surface after, but its usaully herring, it could be the start of things.

I don't believe these early reports of tons of herring until I see them with my own eyes, save your gas, ;-)

Water temperature on incoming high tide was 47.5-48 (48 at the beginning and 47.5 when it mixed with the trib), incoming tributary water temp was 46.5.

just a heads up guys, i've only really been serious about stripers for about 4 or 5 years but still have no boat and tag along with buddies, but my short past tells me that this early spike in creek temps with cold river temps the herring aren't gonna be as easy get in a couple of weeks...if you have a cage...fill it. I'm sitting on about 200 now

Im fishing across from catskill and scapping the herring right off the rocks hooken em up and lettin them fly right where we stand so... if we are getting them off the rocks then they must be in the tribs plus going by what few other guys north are saying they are up to albany by now so I dont think we have to worry about the bait. We DONT need 1-200 at a clip anyway... do we fellas??? I know its hard to stop catchin em and all...
dont bother trying the rojan the nets across an awful lot now dont see how thats right...

We pulled up a half a dozen herring last night (5/4) just off Henry Hudson Park. It seems that they were actually hitting on shad darts better than the usual jigs. That seemed to be the case last year as well.
