I fish both rivers many times throughout the year after the stripers leave. There are plenty of people who know a lot more about fishing but here's what I've learned.
It's not easy to consistently catch quality sized small mouth, large mouth, or pike/walleye.
You either have to fish one of the dams/locks where there is highly oxygenated, fast moving water OR cover a LOT of shoreline with cover, etc.
It is very easy to catch large catfish, carp, perch, crappie, etc.. at least it is for me.
Leave it in. They call it fishing and not catching for a reason. Enjoy the River this summer...cruise, explore and fish.
