Default newbie with equipment questions

Hey I want to get into surf/jetty fishing, Im on a bit of a budget but I dont want something that is going to fall apart on me. I already have to rods that were passed down to me, Idk what would be better to use all around. Maybe I can find a reel that would work with both rods till I can afford a second reel. I have a 7' ugly stick custom (15-30) and I have a 12' ugly stick 2 piece. Any suggestions ? I wanna get out there !

Actually for the most part they do have crap, although occasionally a deal may pop up on a quality reel.
I got my Thunnus there for $100, can't beat that deal anywhere

Before you go shopping it would be a good idea to decide what you're shopping for.
I'm going to assume both rods are set up spinning.

Are you looking to fish bait? - with a 12 Ugly Stick I'd say the answer is yes
For the big Ugly Stick I'd get a Shimano 6500 Baitrunner.
For the little rod, obviously something you're going to use for plugging not bait, a Daiwa SS Tournament Whiskar 1600 would be a good choice.

And no, there is no reel that is going to work on both a 12' beast of a rod and a whippy 7'er - not going to happen.

So I got the baitrunner and a daiwa for the smalller rod and head out last night but I couldn't find anywhere decent to fish, there was a beach in laurence harbor but it was packed!! I ended up in cliffwood beach near a boat slip. Fishing between two signs not one hit. Do I just drive down to belmar and walk the beach? Are there certain sections I should/shouldn't try thanks guys

It is the start of the season, so the crows will be a bit heavy. Drive to IBSP, there is a lot of beach you can walk onto (if you have 4 wheel drive get a permit and drive on the beach)
