#1 trick is to have your drag set properly so that it doesn't slip during the cast, and a leader long enough to grab when landing the fish. Do that and the risk of cuts from braid will be reduced dramatically.
That said, when you've been fishing for hours and your fingers look like prunes, some protection isn't a bad idea at all. I prefer a leather golf glove. Very durable and fits tight enough that you can still tie knots with it on.
