Default Electronics question

I have a 96 Key west and I believe most of my switches (Nav lights, horn, stereo, fish finder, gps, etc) are all looped together in some way shape or form. the other night i discovered when my gps wasn't getting power that one of the wires from the switch had become unplugged. My buddy hooked it back up and we were on our way... later on in pretty heavy seas for my 20' boat, the gps kept cutting out along with my depth/fish finder and NAV lights. everytime I would turn on the GPS it turned right off. finally when we got closer to port and calmer seas everything seemed to work as normal. I checked the connections and everything seems to be tight. Any thoughts??
As long as the bilge, ignition, and motor work I guess I'm alright but I don't want start a fire out there either.. any thoughts are appreciated..

Sounds like a bad ground to your accessories/fuse block.

one of the connections didn't have the plastic insulater on it leaving it exposed. A friend of mine (who was with me at the time) suggested "arc" ing? anyway I replaced the connection and ran all over the place today in the dark and heavy fog and all systems were go! (until I got home- see fuel filter post)
