Default Hudson River Stripers

New to this board. stumbled accross it on a web search. Currently fishing the Hudson River in the Tarrytown, NY area. Tappan Zee Bridge. There is a tourney here on 4/16 and 4/17 with a tagged fish kicker prize of $100,000. Normal prizes for largest fish - $1,000, and combined weight - $500.

I have had my boat in for two weeks now and the fish are in the 24 to 28 inch range with an occasional 33-35 incher. Still small as it is early in the spawn run. Using bloods and light tackle. Getting about 20 small fish in a 2 hour session.

Water temp is 40-42 degrees and the fish will get increasingly active as the water warms up.

Anyone interested in the tourney or fishing the Hudson can log on to www.boatingonthehudson.com or HRFANJ.org. There is also a streaming radio station with a 30 minute show about the hudson on the first site listed.

I also fish in Rhode Island at Block, Matunuck, and the five cottages for stripers and fluke and this looks like a great board.

I see you're from the Albany area. Do you ever make it down around the Kingston/Rhinecliff bridge? I see alot of boats go through there when the stripers are running.

Hiya!

I'm from Albany also. Can't wait til the stripers are biting either. One question for ya...are the herring already up here? I'm looking for a good excuse to play around along the river this weekend and get a head start on stocking up on bait. I learned the hard way last year that frozen bait should be standard equipment -- just in case can't get any some lively ones.

Anyways...glad to see some folks posting on here. Can't wait to hear your tails.

I'm going to be fishing off the Piermont pier next week if I can get out. I don't usually fish the Hudson even though I live in that area. What would be best to use right now? Should I throw bloods or eels?
