Default preferred line/weight recommendation?

I've been fishing stripers in a rocky river environment for some time. Have had good luck with 30lb braid with a 18" fluorocarbon leader.......but, the braid is very hard to throw from my reel. Running a 9 foot ugly stick with a carbon spool Okumo reel. What would you gents recommend for line, and pound test? Mostly catching schoolies. thanks..Mike

I use 40lb braid and 30" 40lb flouro leader. My set up is a 10.6 tica with a penn conflict 6000.

For my schoolie fishing I've got just 20lb mono on. Recently I tried taking a regular freshwater rod/reel combo designed for 10-12lb max and went heavy with 15lb mono on it and landed 3 in the 20" to 24" range.... I wouldn't recommend that but it can be done.

I fish 30lb braid across all of my fishing set up's. The vast majority of my reels are 4000/4500 class sized reels. I top it off with a 30" leader of fluoro, anywhere from 20lb test up to 80lb test. Rods range in size from 7' to 9' never had a problem getting my lure/bait to where I want it, except of coarse when the fish are just out of range...lol
What size Okuma reel is it?

4500 class reel, I swapped to the ultra smooth high vis 20lb spider wire braid and a 30lb fluorocarbon leader and is now casting much better. I hadn't fished stripers in a few years and am thinking the old braid was just getting tired out. Much smoother casting now. Thanks for the input guys!!
