Default any news from Penobscot Bay?

Any news on whether stripers have made it up to the Penobscot this year? I an spending next week on Swan's Island. I'm planning to bring the kayak and see what I can find. Can I expect anything other than mackerel?

Haven't seen any yet. Going to give it another go this weekend as long as the wifes headgasket doesn't turn into a nightmare.

Ok, thanks for the update. May need to try to find some sea bass instead.

Hi ya boys, this is kappy. New to the forum. Been fishing the Penobscot river and part of the bay for the last few years with not a lot of luck. Picked up a few slots, but nothing big. My boat was too small to venture out too far. Bought a bigger boat for the 2014 season, and will try the kenebeck. It's a long tow for me, any advice on the best boat ramp with deep water at any tide ?

Hi Kappy,
I'm not familiar with your area, but did want to welcome you do the forum. The board is a little slow right now in the off-season, so do be discouraged if there aren't too many replies right away from folks up in your neck of the woods.

Have you checked out your state conservation department website? I don't know about ME, but here in MA they have a listing of all the state maintained ramps.

Cheers!

There are two boat ramps readily accessible from RT209. A brand new ramp as of 1999 is located just south of Bath. Another is located at the end of Fiddlers Reach Road also off of RT209. Both have ample parking and are excellent ramps accessible at all tides. Popham Beach State Park is a prime location for those without boats, or on those foggy days. There is a fee charged.

the ol' cut and paste...

Thanks for the response on the boat ramps. Isn't the one south of bath at morse cove ? What's the general consensus on electronics ? The ones that came with the boat I just got are old and I will have to update. Any suggestions out there ?

I have never fished below the bridge at Verona island. Anyone had success out in the bay itself ? I've spent a lot of time from the bridge north up behind the hospital with not much to show for the amount of time spent. Mostly schoolies with a few keepers here and there. Caught the bigger ones trolling top water stuff real slow. They took out the old power dam in Bangor couple years back but you have to be careful with your boat a lot of rocks
