This weather pattern is really trying to stop us from fishing but we are finding ways to work around it. The storms predicted for Fri kept us off the water which was unfortunate because it wasn't that bad. The 3-5 footers predicted for Sat were nothing but roller and very manageable. We fished all night and ended up with 14. We had a bunch of newbies on the boat who did get their personal bests but probably lost over 20 fish.

Yea...pretty much from 9pm to 4am it was on fire there......the Blues were huge...up to 20 lbs. We ran out of eels also and we brought 120.

I have 3 GPS units on the boat for safety and radar....running w/o it out there is miserable and dangerous....you are lucky you made it back....pea soup fog rolled in for a while.

I'm contemplating going out tonight with a buddy. Marine Forecast is for 3-5 ft seas with SW winds 10-15 kts............that is manageable.

I'll be in Newport this weekend waiving to you from the rocks Doc. Hoping to at least find a few schoolies on some plugs at dawn.

Well...the moral of the story this weekend was....ignore what the "expert" marine forecast says and go fishing...........if they are right and its too rough...just turn back...but.......they were wrong. The seas turned out to be fine..much calmer than many of our other trips and the overnight seas laid down nicely. Oh...did I mention the bass cooperated too? We killed em this weekend and again hit the goal of personal bests on Knot on Call....it was epic and I had a great crew for the weekend. Justin Cockx. Joseph Apanowitch. John Bratz Jr.. Tom Dougherty. Now the boat is in the shop for much needed 4 strokes as we burned through 270 gallons of gas for the weekend. And the MONSTER Bluefish moved in.....got my PB there too.....40in @21lbs official on the Boga.

Default Re: 2018 STRIPER REPORTs

Since my regular saltwater boat wasn't done we had to take the backup boat out this weekend. We got out around midnight (Chris Oliver had 42 Striper landed by then as he was already out there) and it was dead calm for 20 minutes and LOADED with giant bass. We hit em good then just like that the weather went to shit....felt like we were in a washing machine with 5-6 ft seas with up to 12 ft rogue waves.......but...as the dedicated fisherman we are we stayed and fished...and killed em. Then...as boats go something always breaks....dam trim switch on the motor shorted and the motor kept trimming itself up.....it broke the transom water dam so we had no choice but to head in to fix it. Thanks to Justin Cockx for sitting at the back of the boat on the way in enduring the waves coming over the roof and side to signal me when the motor started to trim up so I could override it from the helm and keep it trimmed down. Probably the roughest ride in ever but the Grady prevailed. We fixed the problem but couldn't head back out as my buddies ride couldn't make it to pick him up so I had to drive him home. I have to say I fish with some diehards....Justin Cockx for showing up on 5 minutes notice and Joseph Apanowitch for bailing on the end of a wedding to meet us at 10:30 at the launch........he keeps all his fishing stuff in his car.....what a genius. Paul Dillon was also absolutely on fire and John Bratz Jr. is a machine.........ready to fish anytime, anywhere in any seas. We now know who the diehards are...we were the last boat left standing. Thankfully Chris Oliver made it in safely after getting broadsided by a rogue wave at the N rips. The last few pics are from our Canyon Trip.

Another epic relaxing weekend at Block Island for monster Striped Bass. I finally got my new Suzuki 4 stokes on the boat and.....wow....what a difference...I should have done this sooner. I used less than half the gas I did with the 2 strokes and they are so quiet I had to keep checking if they were running. As for the fishing.....off the hook with non stop action both nights from sunset to sunrise. This is the time of year for the big cows. The weather was the best all season with dead calm seas.......not a wave or gust of wind to be found....a rare occurrence this year and a nice treat. I can't wait to get back out. I had a great crew too.....you guys are my family. Joseph Apanowitch. Justin Cockx. Sean Saulnier and Jill. Dan Piwonski.
