I live in TN and have only fished for Striper's in fresh water but in my 30 plus years of fishing for them off and on I find that they will fight to the death. That is a big problem in the Southern part of the US in fresh water during summer. In TN TWRA suggest you quit fishing after you have your limit of two. It does not say you have to but that may be coming. The mortality rate for the Striper's here during summer and 89 degree water after a lengthy fight is very high. Alabama gave up their stocking program of Striper's several years back and stayed with the Hybrid as it was more heat tolerant. Below Pickwick Dam one can catch maybe 50 or 60 Striper's a day on some days in July and August in the 10 to 14 pound class. It is so sad to see those fish released and then watch many of them start floating around in the current....dead. I don't know what the answer to that is. All I can say is the TN river system has a huge population of Striper's and I hope it stays that way. Nice fish you have there.

Regards

it has only happened too me a few times . usually when its a big fish and the fight lasts long. i have heard of it happening often with big tuna tho because they overheat or something like that.
