Merrimack River 6/14/08
Gas prices haven't effected the Merrimack boating crowd this year!! We ran outside in the lumpy windy conditions yesterday to fill the live well with tinker macks and then fished them outside the mouth on the outgoing tide. Plenty of small bass around. We caught a bunch and saw many other boats catching also. Back at Cashman's ramp, there were at least 5 carcasses on the shore of keeper bass that had been filleted at the ramp, but we only caught schoolies up to 25" or so.
Lots of people using live macks, but it didn't appear to matter what the bait was. We saw people catching on chunk herring, clams, etc.
I usually don't fish in amongst the fleet at the mouth, but yesterday I just concentrated on driving and let my crew do most of the fishing.
You can't beat mackerel and schoolies when you have the young kids out! My 4-yr old caught the first Mackerel of the day all by himself (except for unhooking)!
