she was on the sand spit in the river.... with a bunch of her friends.... unfortunatly, she didnt know the power of a 5 knot current, and that keeping your footing is near impossible as the water rises.. that is the 4th life that I know of that has been taken by that bar..very sad...

It is certainly a tragedy. The poor girls family and friends have been gathering near the sand bar the last several days. I hope for the sake of the family that the girls body is recovered soon.

That girl was the first of three lives claimed in as many days by the Merrimack River. A sixty some year old man who fell in tying up his boat the next day, he was removed from the water but died of a heart attack. Then on Thursday a 13 year old boy went after a ball, his body was recovered about an hour later. Please everyone be careful, wear your life jackets and carry a signaling device such as a whistle esp. at night.
After all this we were driving back through Maine and seen a mother letting her young daughter play unattended on a floating dock at the mouth of the Saco River. This dock is in mid-channel, the poor kid wouldn't have a chance if she fell in.
God be with these families.

Yeah, that's crazy, I was just at Plum the other night, those currents are deadly. Just yesterday another man's body was found in Charlestown, he hit his dead on a boat and drowned.
