I was surprised not to see these rods mentioned since they're virtually unbreakable and have a light, responsive MH action, especially at the tip: 12' Ugly Stiks, the #1100 which throws weight up to about 12 oz and the #1102, a stiffer rod that throws up to about 24 oz. I have two 1100s and use Penn Squidders on both. They're great for casting a mile, but don't expect to pull a 20-pounder 10 ft. up the rocks with one without pain. That said, these rods will never crack on you. They bend but don't break, and in the rare event they do, Shakespeare guarantees them for 7 yrs. Each costs about $75. Tight lines!

Don't forget to add - they're very heavy and have absolutely no "touch" what so ever, in other words you can barely feel what's going on at the end of your line.

No offense please but I think Ugly Sticks are trash. If you want a low end rod spend another $25 and get a Tica
