Default Now....about that 61 pounder...?

Pulled from River Basin Sports 4/25/11... Pure unadulterated BS

RIVER BASIN STRIPED BASS UPDATE Sunday, April 24, 2011

We received some clarification regarding those large fish down Newburgh way. The huge fish, approx. 61 lbs, was caught in a net along with other fish in the 40 pound range. These stripers were released, however the large one did not survive the encounter. Thanks for the reporting guys. Tom G
.
What net's in Newburgh.....???????

Nothing but Striper Hype...

WHAT NET'S...??

Trawler's are illegal above the George Washington Bridge... We're talking about Newburgh...

Again I say... WHAT NET'S...??

The "striper hype" is getting rather heavy..... All these reports about huge fish....yet all that River Basin Sport's has to support such hype is a 39" fish... and more fish stories............

The inclement weather has done nothing but extend everyone's winter cabin fever.... We're desperate to get out there and see some nice fish caught... Until then, rumors and gossip mungers will prevail...

The rains just won't stop, the raging muddy water's continue, cold temperatures persist, and the Fish God's are sleeping in until the high waters subside...

Till the next high tide....

A good way to spike sales in a rather slow starting season

Well - Let me try amd murk up the waters furthur. Purely speculation on my part as is the so called phantom fish. More than 1 person was duped with the story that these fish "were taken" from the Hudson River. I believe the story and those fish originated in the Chesapeake during trophy season. Apparantly there were 3 or 4 fish breaking 40 or 50 pounds and 1 over 60 all caught by the same party of fishermen aboard a charter. A picture was posted of the 60 + and promptly removed when they (the website) realized the associated (themselves) was unkowingly being a party to a poached fish. Catch and release only. - anyways my version is purely speculation. I pieced it together from memory and a brief scan of the story before it disappeared from cyberspace. It lasted all of a few hours before the details were lost forever and the story buried.
Now its the phantom of 2011. lol -
Of course I could be completely wrong as usual.

Dont think Mr. Gentalen needs to spread a bogus story to get people to come in to his shop. He has been the only bait shop to survive in greene county for as far back as i can remeber. So with that said I dont think his business has prospered by telling lies. He probably thanks guys like you cause you no someone reading this will take a ride from far and wide just to visit his shop. And most likely while there spend some of there hard earned money. 61 pounder I believe it. State record 55 so you no dam well there are bigger cows out there.

The story did not originate with the baitshop. It was a posted report on another site that got it rolling.
It sounded fishy from the start

The biggest striper ever captured in a net was over 120 lbs. So they can get much, much bigger!

Fish that area for two weeks now, and while out with the rodreaper the other night he was battling I esimate. 30 poind cow be brought up from 43 ft. Only to have her spit the hook about 5ft from the surface. So they might be here but I' ve heard of no such at anyof the Four bait&tackle shops. One almost Fourty pounder landed off cold spring and one 34 lbr landed down New Windsor off PP. No bigger as of yesgerday
