A state fishing record was set today, March 31, 2012. Tyler Shields, Lucas Kilpatrick, Logan Howard, Bobby Pisciotta, Logan and Caleb Davis were fishing this morning on the Hiwassee Lake at Beaver Dam when Shields hooked a 66.1 pound Striper Bass. It took the guys 45 minutes to reel it in. They told us they used a 10 pound Bass Pro Shop Tess line; excel fishing line and a Bionic Blade Open Face Rod. They caught this impressive fish using a black Zoom trick worm.
They had it measured and weighed on a USDS Certified Scale at Interstate Welding. The measurements were 47.5 inches long, a 35 inch girth, and weighed 66.1 pounds. The previous record was set in 1991, weighing 54.2 pounds, also at Hiwassee Lake.
The state record papers have been signed and made official. Congratulations guys, this is awesome!
