Default questions on aqueduct fishing

I have never fished the aqueduct because of the distance and the probability of getting skunked every time. I have been reading forum for awhile and would like to give it a try. What times are the best and what do you look for to find the best places to fish. I am in the Fresno area. Any help appreciated. Whats best anchovies or plugs. Thanks Ron

I'm not familiar with the Fresno area (live on the east coast) but generally speaking, there are several things to look for when picking out your spot. There are no "right" or "wrong" answers, but rather varying opinions, some with more merit than others!! It's a game of trial and error, and putting your time in (A LOT of time) if ya wanna become a serious angler. Look for any signs of structure in/around the area you're fishing (*i.e. rocks, sand bars, inlets and anything that looks a little different in the water as it could be holding fish). The only bad news I have for ya is that skunkings, whether you're a newbie, a novice or a scientist, are a part of the game. The best advice I can give ya is this: 1) Make friends at your local tackle shop(s), those are the guys with an array of knowledge and are usually willing to pass it along. 2) Keep active on this site, search forums and let the "search button" be your best friend. If there's something you wanna know and can't find it in a search, ask away in this forum or any other and your question will be answered, guarenteed!!! (just don't ask for an exact location/fishing spot/honey hole on this site, it's heavily frowned upon and could lead to an abundance of unwanted flack). All your answers are here though my friend, from the best and worst times to fish, reading the beach and structure, tides, migration patterns and a host of other tricks of the trades that will make you a sucessful striper fisherman. The most important thing to remember, however, is don't get frustrated and quit......you may think you're not doing something right or not using the proper gear but it could be as simple as fishing in the wrong place, wrong time or both. I had FAR more trips where I got skunked as opposed to catching fish this year, but once ya get your first one, you'll be hooked for life......TRUST ME!!!!! Good luck man, hope this helped, and of course, .

I too live in fresno and fish the aqueduct many times and caught many fishes there. I usually fish by the gates when they are open. Anchovies work good, but try pile worms or blood worms they work as well and the best times are usually in the morning and late afternoon to sunset. I fish from five points all the way up to the firebaugh area and caught fishes all along the aqueduct, but usually by the gates. Hope this helps.

pretty new to the aqueduct myself but getting pretty familiar with it.
i looked up your area and it looks like the best spot i found on google earth would be either the los banos area or the king city area. the los banos area i think would be better because you also have the san luis reservoir, oneal forebay. but the king city area is good to. look up striper bill at [email protected] im sure you can find all the info you need.
and when it comes to spots anywhere were there is fast flowing water. even better if you can find a spot where the flood control gates are if they are open
let me know how it turns out??
oh yea for cut baits anchovies, mackarel, chicken liver
i perfer the liver,
and lures ratle traps, topwather baits about 5 inches long,
i also swear by thenew strike king rage tail top water bait
black and white!!!
