Default Types of Bait ????

First off are there any types of paste baits (example Burkley Power Bait etc.) for saltwater fishing.

Clams for bait. I've never used them so this may sound dumb.
How is the bait used? Do I need to wrap it in something like cheese clothe?
Like I do when fishing with liver for Catfish.

Clams? nope. Although the best bait for striper by far in my opinion is fresh bunker (aka menhaden, mossbunker, or alewive). Cut into 1 inch chunks its awesome.

That diagrams very helpful, I've been using the waste sections. Anyways, I know about Omega Protein, incredibly sad. The recreational and local alewive guys are starting to complain. We have one local guy though that delivers them fresh every day. Very convenient, and great bait.

Hey Jim, does that qualify for all fish baits, such as Makeral and Herring too?

Yea Kev.
Some guys use the blood and guts for an additional attractant. and some guys like the tails. especially for blue fish. I however cut away the belly portion and fillet the chunks at times. and i use the whole head.

Thanks for all your replies.
Sorry if I sound like a blindman. Surf fishing to me is like teaching a new born to walk

Npike, there is something called "Smelly Jelly" out. I use it on my rubber swimbaits and lures, etc.. I use the Herring scent primarily.

WASTE SECTIONS???? There's no such thing! :yeah:

If I'm chunking and targeting larger fish, I will cut the Herring or Mack in half and throw that. Big bait, big fish. Throwing a whole Herring is not out of the question either.
