Longtime lurker here, currently living in the Boston area.
I'm a student right now, and am looking to hire a guide in the spring to take me fly fishing for some stripers on the surface. I've never hired a guide before, primarily because I haven't had the income to hire a guide in the past. Now that I want to hire one though, I realized that I have no idea how to find a good fishing guide: a magazine, a website, word of mouth? Guides aren't cheap and I want to be sure that I hire one that I get along with, but that also knows how to put me onto fish.
I decided to pursue an independent project about this subject, because I love fishing, and the difficulty of finding a good guide seems like a market inefficiency that I'm genuinely curious about. So, I created a very short survey about finding fishing guides. If you'd be willing to take two minutes to answer the survey and help with my project I'd really appreciate it, but please feel free to also post your thoughts in this thread.
