Default Polaris poppers-How to carve the cup?

Hey Guys,
I have been making my own plugs for the last few months now and I was able to make my own lathe that works very well. I have only made polaris style poppers and when I carve out the cup at the front of the plug I use my dremel. It works well but it takes a decent amount of time but it works. I was wondering if anyone can give me any other ideas that I can use to carve out the cup on the plug. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks. Paul

Hard to beat a ball rasp.. it's all I use for anything concave..... forschner bit also works.. as does a carefully employed round end router bit.. but caution is advised they are dangerous even in a drill press...

I have been using a ball rasp in the chuck of my lathe it cuts nicely and is much easier to control the material

Thanks again guys. That squid plug I made (the one pic thats in this thread) didnt get me a mahi but believe it or not I caught a 20lb yellowfin on it during my latest trip to the hudson/100 square area. I couldnt believe it. So far on my own handmade plugs I have caught bluefish and tuna. Now I just have to get a nice 40lb bass on 1 of them. Tight Lines Paul
