Question Need advice for next years outfit with braid?

I am planning on buying a couple of rod and reel set ups for use with the braided line , I will be using about 50 lb. test . I would like to get a NICE reel with the Bite and run or baitfeeder feature . The Van Stals are out of my $ range .

I know they have rods with a specific eyes for use with the braid . I saw one that was and interline surf rod , I guess it has no eyes and the line runs through the rod . It is suppose to cut down on tangles and such . This is a thought .

I like the fact that the braided line casts farther than mono , and I have seen some nice reels made to get the distance needed to really reach out there and touch these fish .

What would you guys suggest in the way of rods and reels made for the braid ? I would like to have some nice set ups as I will be fishing with a young man who had a blast this year and is new to the salt . This was his first year and he loved it . So I would like to have some nice heavy gear for him to use that will put up with the abuse the blues can dish out .

Thanks for your help and any recommendations in advance .
Tight Lines to all ,
Rebekah

Rebekah. What do you plan do be doing mostly? Boat surf bait lures?
This is a personal choice.
After using everything under the sun myself and budget is a large consideration, - Personally I would settle on the shimano baitrunner reel.
This can be used in almost all situations boat - small surf - lures - beach - bait. Handles braid just fine. The 6500 model is heavy for plugs but will stand up to weight and bait and big fish. The 4500 model is lighter and better for lures - can double for boat duty and bait.
It must be rinsed and serviced if used often.
But what reel doesnt.

My favorite ( budget) reels and my first reels are the Penn Z series reels. They hold fireline braid Ok but excell with mono. Production was discontinued in 2006. Hard to find but can be gotten still from Fleabay.

Again the shimano baitrunner is a good choice at ~ $120 - $140 new in box.

Find a rod that uses fugi alconite guides. These handle braid just fine.

Question Re: Need advice for next years outfit with braid?

Planning on doing mostly Popping with the "snack - It" , I LOVE that Popper !! I also plan on slinging live Pogies and chunk Bait as well next year . But I love the braid with the poppers , you can really reach out there where the big boys hide .

I will make sure I check out the reel you mentioned . Thanks So Much for Your Help .

I have a baitrunner thunnus with waterproof drag and love it..its a bit heavy for the faint of heart though.. 50lb suffix for braid is great or fireline... im sure you can find a shimano baitrunner cheap check around... im not sure if the smaller models under the thunnus have waterproof drag but ...mr baitrunner himself could answer that..
Hoping santa brings me my zeebaas.

Not sure about all of them, but I know my Baitrunner 4500b has the waterproof drag, and I've tested it out too. Several times it has spent 10+ minutes completely submerged, but once up on my rock it's still smooth with a nice fish on Just give it a good rinse when you get home and a complete cleaning at the end of the season.

If you're going to be fishing both bait and plugs with the same outfit you might want to think about going conventional.
An Abu 6500 series reel and a medium action 10' rod would be a good way to go.
