For live bait fishin', I would definitely recommend Fireline, Power Pro, etc.. Anything but mono lol. The last thing you want when live bait fishing is stretch. Once that bass opens up and engulfs that bait fish, you want to feel it and be able to set the hook with authority. 20 or 30# Fireline would be a good bet.

I use Fireline on my Avenger reels and they lay it down very nicely.

could i get away with putting 30 or 40lbs test on the AV80 even though it says 310/20 i know it would take some yardage away but would it really hurt it???? and how many yrds do u think i would have left if i put 40lbs on it??? thx

triple7s ... the rating on the reel is prolly for mono.. braid or fused is gonna be smaller, therefore, your gonna get more on than 310/20.. if your gonna use braid or fused your gonna have to back it with mono or buy a bigass spool ... if it were my reel, I'd fill it 1/3 with 20lb mono then use an albright knot to the braid or fireline... top it off about an 1/8" shy of full .. make sure it's as tight as you can get it.. and make sure your mono is on tight too... the lighter the line the more casting distance you'll get.. for surf apps a lot of guys use the 14 with a shock leader.. some use the 20-30# with just a leader of say 3-4ft. ... depends on what your after..
