Default Travel Spinning Rod

Hey guys, was wondering if any of you have experience with a rod for travel. I prefer 1 piece rods, but do a good bit of traveling and would love something more portable. The rod would primarily be used for stripers in the Chesapeake.
The rod would be matched with a penn battle 4000.

Don't really want to spend the money for the G.L. escape...
what about...

st. croix tidemaster

Would you go with a medium or medium heavy (Mainly used for live baits and a few soft plastics)?

Are you talking airline travel or car travel? For transporting 11' surf rods on the airlines, I use 2 piece rods and a homemade PVC rod tube.

I tried a couple different travel rods when I was on the road all the time with my last job about 8 years ago, but I never found one that I actually liked. Haven't looked at them recently though, so they may have seen some improvement since then.

Thanks for the reply. I should have specified that I wasn't thinking of a surf rod, more of a boat/kayak rod.

And a mix of airplane and car.

Question Re: Travel Spinning Rod

I just got the St. Croix Tidemaster 3 piece spinning rod. 7'6", 2oz lure max, heavy action. Haven't used it yet, but it will be for vacations and roadtrips. I didn't get a reel for it yet. Any recommendations? I want it to be able to hold 250yds of 20# line. Thanks.
