Hello, new to the site. I was doing some reading and research on stripers for the last few seasons. I caught a bunch of small ones under 20" last year from the shore and only 3 of them between 25-35". I try to catch the Alewives with a dropnet but often cant find them. I then end up using the backup that i brought along which is shiners. I have also tried small trout. My personal favorite is top water but that is often tough at Beltzville lake where i fish. I just wanted to see if anyone has any suggestions for catching more stripers and also alewives? I know the lake pretty well since i have been fishing it for years and live only 5 mins from it. Also< if anyone would like to fish there but need a partner for a night or so message me. I love to fish and would really enjoy being taught how to catch them by a more experienced striper fisherman. thanks and i look forward to enjoying this great site.
I was told to use thundersticks at night near the dam when I visited a few years back.
Also the stripers like to congregate on the points where the lake bends in S shapes.
I could only fish during the day on a rental and had heatstroke by noon.
thanks for your help, any and all suggestions are appreciated. I have not tried thundersticks yet but have fished and caught a couple near the damn area at night using live bait. I normally only use either live bait or topwater lures. I guess i dont have confindence in anything that dives down deeper yet. I have heard that rattletraps and cranks and slash baits work good but not really sure how to use them correctly yet. I will have to try them this year. thanks again
