Default home made korkers

Hey all,
Went on a Jetty the other day for the first time, hooked up with a striper, and she was actually pulling me(in my flipflops) accross an algea slicked rock, to the point where I had to get on one knee to get some traction against the fish, before I was pulled right off the rocks. Obviously I'm new to the game. There were some a-holes who just said ''hey #$!% head, you're going to get yourself killed'' and others who actually stopped and showed me there korkers, and told me about them. One guy showed me home made ones.

These korkers were just old sneakers with 5/8'' panhead steel screws screwed into them......It's safe to say that I chose this $11 alternative to the cheapest $65 korker straps at my local shop.

My question, will these be just as effective as korkers? He said that his were, and I'm just looking to gain a little more insight so I know whether or not to be ready to start getting pulled in again. Let me know what you think......If I get a free second, I'll post a pic of my home made korkers.

I seriously doubt that they would be "just as effective" as real Korkers, but definitely 100 times better than flip flops

That would be Brian. He's one of the better fishermen in the area - listen to what he says.

In the thread below I mention that I ripped off a friends idea - that would be Brian

They worked well!
I think when the rocks are perfectly dry I actually had less traction than I would've in sneakers alone, however; when the water started coming in my home made korkers allowed me to keep my spots without any trouble at all. No fish this time though.....

Im a little curious, dont know about sneakers, I'd probably go with boots for a more solid sole but how do you get the screws in? from the inside where you put your foot then through the sole? don't you step all over the screw heads making it uncomfortable? got any pics?
