Default Boston to the Merrimack

Hi everyone, Dave here. Been fishing for stripers in/around Boston and Plum Island for about 7 years, mostly spinning with a Yozuri minnows on the back side of PI or mackerel in the mouth of the Merrimack.

Rediscovered flyfishing this year, new setup will be ready to take down to the Cape next week when dad and I hit the beach and the flats for a few days.

For those of you around Boston, you can catch me in Charlestown under the bridge at night or the last pier of the Navy Yard near Chelsea.

I am consultant work from home, so I'm always up for a short trip out of town to hit the water.

This site is amazing, you all do a fantastic job can't wait to dig into the forums.

How is the fishing under the Charlestown bridge? I mainly fish from Gloucester to Nahant, usually on a boat. Still waiting to go this year.

My main experience under the bridge is with storm shad and yozuri minnows and I haven't had much luck. Farther down in the Navy Yard I've caught several schoolies on a fly rod with Deceivers.

I wish I had a boat to go out into the Harbor. I'm going out to George's Island and a few others next week, taking the water ferry. Do some exploring, I hear midweek at sunrise people get decent stripers off some of the islands.

Spent last week on the cape fishing Monomoy, Bass River and Bilingsgate shoals, great time and some decent fish although nowhere as good as the week before from what I hear. Never fished flats before, what a cool experience.

I was at the mouth of the Merrimac yesterday, fishing for stripers my first time, didn't know what to use and whatnot, but I can tell you, right between the 2 jettys on plum island, guys were catching them left and right, right after low tide, and right before it started to rain heavily, between 3:00 and 5:00.

Welcome! I have fished under that bridge in Charlestown so many times I lost count. Slow year up there from what I understand....lots of fishing pressure in that spot...good luck!!
